Ataul Hannan and Todd Ward from Harris County Flood Control District will trace the origins of the county’s flood vulnerability, evaluate the performances of the District’s major flood mitigation projects in the context of recent historic flood events, and introduce effective ways to use the various flood monitoring tools on their website.

Presentation by Port of Houston Project Manager Richard Ruchhoeft from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. on 09/05/2018
Richard Ruchhoeft, Project Manager from the Port of Houston will give an overview of how the Port’s properties survived Hurricane Harvey and how it prepares itself for the impacts of more intense storms and a rising sea level in the future.

Presentation by Buffalo Bayou Partnership Project Manager Jose Solis from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on 08/29/2018
Buffalo Bayou Park was designed to flood. It spared its surroundings from flooding during Hurricane Harvey. While the park captured a significant amount of sediment, the bayou segment future east of the park suffered from severe erosion. Jose Solis, project manager from the Buffalo Bayou Partnership will compare how the Buffalo Bayou Park and the bayou waterfront area to the east responded to the inland and riverine flooding associated with Hurricane Harvey. He will also share lessons learned for making other bayous waterfront areas in Houston more resilient.
