Narrative

As time on Earth increases, the population of humankind is increasing and natural resources become depleted. There are simply not enough resources to handle all the humankind lives that are currently living on the planet. There is also an issue with climate change and solar radiation as seen in global warming in the cold parts of the planet.  With this temperature change and decrease in natural resources, the time to leave the planet and create a new environment for people in space has come. To solve  this world wide issue, we are designing a space shuttle for the Lower Earth Orbit (LEO). Our design is to create an Intergalactic Space shuttle that will travel from Earth to the Moon and form the Moon to Mars and cycle around. This will give people the choice to live on the moon where Asteria will be focusing their design or live on Mars where Hexas is designing. Before entering the shuttle, people will have to go to International Space University where they will gain knowledge of how to live in space properly. This shuttle will be an intergalactic space city ship that will include elements for site level, district level and city level based on the theme of Bee Hive.  This theme of hex was designed to be just like a current beehive where people in the station must work together and live together to help one another survive. It will feature elements such as a watering system and a microbial fuel cell section where food can be reproduced and used throughout the space shuttle. These elements are being added to create a space in the Intergalactic Space Station that has a resemblance of Earth and has a sense of home for all people who live in space and travel.

This is a depiction of a section of the residential district in our international space city. The highlighted areas are the different parks in this district that also serve as a source of energy and waste filtration.

This project is designed to allow humans to eventually leave uninhabitable earth and join the International Space City. Our city will have three different levels: the site, district, and city. These different levels will all work together to be a complete closed loop system that will self-sustain life of all walks till the city eventually finds a new habitable planet.

The LEO Space Ship contains six rings with a central communal core that connects every ring. Our ship is capable of traveling long distances to find habitable planets by its sustainable closed loop system designed to be utilized for generations. The International Space Station is being decommissioned by 2031 and our mission is to design a replica of the ISS that will become our hub for developing a lower Earth orbiting spaceship. This large scale printer will be capable of printing in a 300’ by 300’ area that is the start of the ship’s rings. While the outer rings are being built there will be a smaller international space station that will begin building the inner ring portion of the ship. The phases of building the ship are broken up into six components. The first phase is building the first ISS 3d printer replica and then the second phase is building the larger 3d printer. The third phase is beginning the building of the first ring. The second phase is building the inner ring. The fifth phase is connecting all six rings together. The last phase is inhabiting the ship. These phases can be repeated and duplicated in order to build more ships in the earths lower orbit. These rings will be home to the transportable table and modular housing ships that can detach when necessary or when a primary hot planet is found. These will surround the outer rings while the inner cylinder will be home to schools, training centers, parks, dams, and transportation. The cylinder will connect to the rings by elevator spokes that can transport people in and out of the ring.

This area is taken from the three private parks that connect the residential areas to the city level areas. Each park serves a different purpose and overall is visually pleasing. The first private park area serves as the cathode park. This park’s purpose is to not only serve as a way for residents to intervene with nature but also as a place to gather the gray and black water throughout the site. This park then will create a natural flow providing different nature opportunities to the third park which is the anode park. The anode park is equipped with clean water and different functions for people to understand how that works. Backtracking to the second park, this park will be a viewing area where residents will be able to look into their section and see the transfer between the anode and cathode parks. Informationals will be provided to describe these processes. These parks will weave in and out of the residential district and will be cut off at each spoke. These spokes will not only be the end point for the six residential areas and three parks but also as a barrier for people to get their water and act as transportation to the city level. You will be able to see these parks and spokes in the aerial perspective board. The design elements throughout this private garden space will be specific to the six different residential houses and will act as individual agriculture and site specific design elements that will improve the life of the people in these residential sectors.

In order to keep an earth-like environment within the LEO ship, we first had to address the necessities of the human race, one of the most obvious necessities, being a clean water and food supply. Upon being able to relay a clean water and food supply, one of the problems we came across was how both of these main functions would work. In order for us as a species to generate some of these necessities at a constant rate in a completely different environment is to find a source of renewable energy, not only to clean our water, but to provide energy, and constant food production.  We managed to come across microbial fuel cells and develop a plan that can effectively run through our entire LEO ship and provide these said features for everyone. By the usage of microbial fuel cells in our anode, cathode and membrane chamber, our own waste can be used to grow crops/vegetables and ultimately be capable of cleaning our water source. In each of these three sectors or parks serves a purpose in the future development of mankind, each sector(park) has a series of underground piping systems that run through the ship distributing microbial fuel cells, clean water and gray water. With these pipe systems and microbial fuel cell storage tanks we can effectively produce a sustainable amount of necessities needed for our survival.

Project Statement

This project is designed to allow humans to eventually leave uninhabitable earth and join the International Space City. Our city will have three different levels: the site, district, and city. These different levels will all work together to be a complete closed loop system that will self-sustain life of all walks till the city eventually finds a new habitable planet.

With rising temperatures and climate change, the planet is becoming unlivable. The time to provide a suitable space shuttle for mankind has come with precaution of floating space debris.

The process of building the International Space City begins by replicating the ISS with an incorporated 3D printer. The printer collects space debris as material for this station. The process in broken into 5 phases that will complete a 6 outer ring living space connected by a continues city level space.

Each ring will consist of a closed loop green space with gardens that recycles and cleans waste, cycles water through the district to the city, collects thermal and solar energy, and transports people through the spokes to the city center.

This is a depiction of a section of the residential district in our international space city. The highlighted areas are the different parks in this district that also serve as a source of energy and waste filtration.

The community garden space is a open green area that include paths, nodes, and sightseeing look outs. The uniform buildings are modular and are easily assembled. This allows for further development of community spaces and gardens such as this.

System that connected us on earth will be some of the same modes to connect us in space. Bringing old earth formations to help touch people with old earth.

The inner city system includes large natural parks, water features and facilities throughout. The facilities include schools, training space development, and community centers. The light rail will allow for easy transportation as well as giving access to every ring.

The ship will function through microbial fuel cells in order to maintain function, food availability and a steady source of energy.

This zone represents the agricultural area where we will use the microbial fuel cells as a source of growing crops and food. Community involvement will be required for these crops and foods to grow.

As time on Earth increases, the population of humankind is increasing and natural resources become depleted. The issue of solar radiation and rising global temperatures also has been researched and proven to be a problem for the future of the planet.

The individual hex system of the LEO Space Station is the main connection to allow residents personal well being. This area comprises residential living, the spoke-like structures, recreational areas, and agricultural areas.

Connecting cities through urban agriculture, transportation, and studies will contribute towards healthy/ sustainable space development. Future galactic cities will work together as a community to further studies and adapt to the new way of living.

In order to preserve human life and keep humans well fed is by the use of microbial fuel cells that can be gathered from our own waste and used to grow a steady source of crops/vegetables.

The space community(ship) is focused on the idea of taking advantage of renewable resources to grow crops, produce electricity and provide proper movement of our living quarters based on the conditions of space to move as efficient as possible.
